Estimate gas costs for any trip. Distance + fuel efficiency + price = total cost.
Planning a road trip or just curious about your daily commute costs? This calculator gives you an instant estimate. Here's how:
Step 1 β Choose your unit system: Toggle between "Miles & MPG" (US/imperial) and "km & L/100km" (metric). The labels update automatically to match your preference.
Step 2 β Enter your trip distance: Type the total distance you plan to travel. For road trips, use Google Maps or similar to get an accurate distance. For daily commuting, multiply your one-way distance by the number of workdays.
Step 3 β Enter your vehicle's fuel efficiency: This is your car's MPG or L/100km rating. You can find this in your owner's manual, on the window sticker, or by checking fueleconomy.gov. If you don't know your exact number, 25-30 MPG is a reasonable estimate for an average sedan.
Step 4 β Enter current fuel price: Check local gas prices on GasBuddy or at stations near you. Remember that prices can vary significantly between regions and even between stations in the same city.
Reading results: The calculator shows total fuel cost, fuel needed (gallons or liters), and cost per unit distance. Add 10-15% to your budget for traffic detours, AC usage, and potential price increases along your route.
